Sunrise over the Patagonia plain near Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia, Argentina.
In photography it pays to look behind you. We were trying to get an early morning image of the sun rising over FitzRoy from a vantage point a few miles from El Chalten in Los Glaciares National Park in Argentine Patagonia. Dark storm clouds were settling in over FitzRoy ruining what might otherwise have been a beautiful crimson sunrise. To my surprise, when I turned around I saw that the low clouds over the Patagonia plains were blazing red and orange and the lower mountains were a deep purple. I used the wild grass as a makeshift foreground and quickly, before the moment was gone, made this image.
