A brown bear sits behind a shrub looking for salmon in Katmai National Park, Alaska.

Since there were very few bears at Brooks Falls we flew to the Little Kue Creek, a small creek full of salmon that isn’t even on most maps, in Katmai National Park.  We walked in the creek, wearing waders, finding large, hungry, brown bears around almost every turn.   Many of the bears stood or sat on the shore waiting for salmon to swim by and then jumped into the stream and tried to pin the salmon to the bottom of the creek with their huge paws.  Luckily, I had the opportunity to make this boldly composed image of a brown bear, with some additional fill in leaves in post, sitting behind a shrub waiting for a salmon to swim by.
