When I made arrangements to shoot brown bears in Katmai National Park one of the images I wanted to come back with was a tight, sharp, portrait of a wild grizzly bear. After hiking down to the Little Kue Creek on steep squishy tundra carrying camera gear plus hauling a heavy long lens, I had my tripod set up less than 40’ from a brown bear while the bear was lurking on the opposite shore trying to catch a salmon.  I waited for him to lift his head so that he was facing me and I could see his eyes then made this image- so I could return home somewhat satisfied.
