Eagle Suspended in Air

Bald eagle about to land near Haines, Alaska.

I came to Haines, Alaska, a small town on the Lynn Canal, to photograph bald eagles feeding on spawning salmon on the warmer winter waters of the Chilkat River where it’s estimated that over 4,000 bald eagles are drawn to the Chilkat Eagle Preserve- an amazing visual experience.  Fast low flying bald eagles are intermittently on the move looking for salmon- not any easy subject to photograph.  I made this image as a eagle swooped down along the river and seemed to be temporarily suspended in air as it landed near shore.
